Mercy

Mercy is one of the core characteristics of God Himself, and something He desires to see in us.

Mercy encompasses the ideas of pity, empathy, and compassion, and is of course very closely related to Grace and Love.

The word Mercy in English is derived from the Latin Merced, a translation of the Greek Eleos ἔλεος (eleos) and the Hebrew Chesed or Rachamanut Rach-a-ma-nut

“Mercy triumphs over judgement”

James 2:18

Words are slippery fishes to define exactly, especially between different languages, and there is a great deal of overlap, so it is worth looking into the words yourself. Strong’s Concordance is a useful tool.
