Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Matthew 28:19, 20
There is a tendency for the majority who become Christians to settle into the character of ‘sheep’, relying on the ‘shepherds’ to herd us!
But the Chief Shepherd, Jesus, became a ‘lamb’ who gave his life in order to seek out and save lost ‘sheep’.
The ‘Great Commission’ of Matthew 28:19 & 20 applies to every believer – we are not meant to settle down as sheep but to become self-sacrificing lamb-shepherds, seeking out the lost and shepherding – discipling – them, so that they in turn can become lamb-shepherds who will seek out the lost.
The Message Bible puts it beautifully:
“Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life.”
